First of all, I think I am on a cross stitch wanting binge! Every chart I see, I want. Aside from that, the ones I want are the most expensive foreign charts that have to be purchased in Euros. I am not complaining, just observing that my tastes are truly expensive. This is setting aside that I have more charts and magazines in my stash that would take me 10 lifetimes to stitch.
There is a part of me that is thankful, I only stitch with DMC or Sullivan's overdyed (some WDW and Crescent Colors too) because that keeps the cost a bit lower. I am scared to look at the silks because then I would truly be lost. LOL.
This makes it hard to buy Christmas gifts for myself. The only alternative is to buy them all a bit at a time.
My favorites are Renato Parolin, Isabelle Vautier, Filigram, AAN, AMAP, Nimue and so many others that the list would be 3 posts long. All I am saying is that no matter how much I have designers are coming up with the newest and freshest ideas that are must-haves to me. That is awesome because it keeps the art alive and fresh and evolving.
Do you also feel this way? Are you even more lost than I am? Are you a lifetime collector?
Do you have lifetimes of stitching collected and still collect more and more? Are we cross-stitch hoarders?????
I call it my retirement fund.

I sometimes find myself wanting more too (after reading others' blogs). Although, I don't think I would go so far as to call myself a hoarder, I can see myself becoming one with enough space, LOL! If you have seen my blog, then you may have seen my "Future Projects" page and my "Wish List" page. Those two pages just keep getting longer. I guess it's safe to say that this is a legal bad habit/addiction. It could be worse!!!
I have only rediscovered cross stitch in the last 2 years so my stash is growing. No doubt in 2 years time I will have more than enough to keep me going several life times LOL. Don't feel bad. It's quite an inexpensive hobby really.
yup..count me in too..i am a life time collector too..he he he
The answers to all of your questions is a resounding YES!!! I, too, call the obsession my retirement fund - great rationalizers, aren't we? I am lucky though, I have still yet to get hooked on the international charts. I still have too many designers here in America that I want ALL of their designs, and I seem to find more and more as I get older - scary!!
Well then, I am in great company!!
I may be a cross stitch hoarder, but I am really neat and organized about it. lol
I am in the ranks of "got more than I'll ever stitch in this lifetime.."....But as a promoter, participant and ongoing enabler in the world of stitching, I think its healthy to keep aquiring...I used to only use DMC and now I have quite the array of fibers, linens and styels of charts...
I love the idea of you posing this question to us and will check back to see how we all feel...Something tells me we will all say that one year I go crazy and want to buy everything I see and the next year I am content with stitching with what I have....
Good post~~~ Have a good week....
Yes, it is cyclical. Some are good stash years, others no stash years.
Some by choice, others because there was nothing that struck my fancy.
Glad that the end of this year and next are looking to be good stash years which means great giveaway / PIF years too.
Compared to knitting and needlepoint, cross stitch is very economical.

We are all alike. Every time I see a new design - I just have to have it. Like you, I see it as investing in my retirement.

For someone who has been only stitching for 6 1/2 years how did I collect so many patterns. I think I am a collector of patterns. I too am afraid to try silks, don't need to get hooked.
I guess we are ready in case we are shut in for a year we would all have enough to keep us busy.

Yes, I'm in the SABLE category (Stash Acquired Beyond Life Expectancy!). It sure doesn't stop me though. Saving for retirement was my previous excuse. Now I'm retired and still haven't stopped!
I love a lot of the French designs as well. Have you discovered Violarium yet?
I bet I'm one of the minority cos I'm not a huge collector. I want, of course, especially when I see the pretty stuff, but somehow I've managed to plan in my head till I'm ready to stitch something, then that's when I buy.
I have a simple theory about collecting patterns. It's best summed up as: Buy the pattern, buy the dream. I happily buy patterns, but don't buy the fabric or flosses or what not until I'm actually about to start stitching. And really, I don't think there is anything wrong at all with buying the dream.
I have to answer yes to all the questions you asked.
I think we are all much the same, we have the cash and the love of cross stitch, if I never purchased another thing I will never run out of stitching to do. My taste do not change, so my stash like many other sits and waits for me, enjoy your shopping I do xxx
